The training period, that aimed to promote deficient agricultural professions and increase awareness among young people interested in agricultural topics, has finished. GeorgeNanobashvili, Economic Development Team Leader of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, met with the graduates and presented them certifications.
,,Agroschool is an interesting opportunity for youth to gain important knowledge and information about agricultural topics. The educational programme motivates them to continue their studies in the agricultural field in the future," stated Solomon Pavliashvili.
Experts and representatives from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia lectured to the students for two months. Veterinary medicine and particularly dangerous infectious diseases of animals, livestock and poultry farming, soil science, desertification and overgrazing, food safety, climate-smart agriculture, Georgian grape varieties, the history of finding and protecting wild grapes in Georgia, horticulture, gardening, Georgian traditional beekeeping, aquaculture and fisheries, agricultural development, farmers' capabilities, existing agricultural programs, farm management, agrotourism, and the role of education in the agricultural sector were all covered by students during the training program.
As part of the field trip, the participants visited the agencies of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Kachreti branch of the Aisi College.
Students from all over the country could take part in the training course.
Participants were selected on the basis of a contest.
The educational program "Agroschool" for students interested in agricultural topics will be held annually. The program is implemented by the EIEC, with support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
